Schultz Announces June Fundraising Numbers, Strong Bi-Partisan Support
Winchester, Va – Standing in front of a crowd of cheering supporters on Winchester’s Downtown Mall, Senate candidate Karen Schultz (D-Winchester) announced her campaign’s strongest fundraising report to date, a clear sign that front-runner Jill Holtzman-Vogel (R-Upperville) should not take anything for granted.
“For the fundraising period ending June 30, this campaign raised $114,847.72. This gives us an overall total of $237,181.94 for the year,” Schultz said. “At the end of June this campaign had $183,117.52 cash on hand.”
The announcement by Schultz follows another strong fundraising period ending May 30 which left Schultz with more money in the bank than both Mark Tate and Vogel – the two Republicans seeking their party’s nomination – combined.
Vogel defeated Tate in a June 12 primary, but spent all of the nearly half a million she had raised in the effort. Vogel’s fundraising numbers for June were unknown late Friday.
Schultz stressed the large amount of support she has received from Democrats, Republicans and independents. “When my report is made public next week, you will find contributions from both Democrats and Republicans,” Schultz said. “There will be contributions from well-known local leaders and from folks who have never before made a contribution to a political candidate.”
“We have a bi-partisan message, we have bi-partisan support and on November 6 we will have a bi-partisan victory.”
Schultz’s fundraising success will likely lead to increased Democratic support. Former Governor Mark Warner appeared at a June 9 fundraiser in Berryville which raised over $50,000, and Governor Tim Kaine has said he will also do an event for Schultz later in the year. Democrats hope to replace Senator Russ Potts (R-Winchester) with another moderate in order to maintain an uneasy equilibrium in Richmond.
Schultz seemed to understand this Friday as she explained how her campaign has grown so quickly. “I have the support of Republicans who want to see the moderate leadership of Senator Russ Potts continue,” Schultz said. “I have the support of independents who like my bi-partisan approach.”
“Momentum is on my side, Democrats and Republicans and independents are on my side, and come November I look forward to having a majority of the district’s voters on my side.”
