Schultz calls on Vogel to return pro-amnesty lobbying money

Vogel asked to explain apparent conflict of interest on illegal immigration

WINCHESTER – State Senate candidate Karen Schultz called on her opponent, Jill Holtzman Vogel, to return her share of the $63,000 that her husband’s firm received for pro-amnesty lobbying.

Vogel’s pro-amnesty business ties were revealed in Wednesday’s Northern Virginia Daily. According to the article, while Holtzman Vogel has accused Washington of failing to enact stricter immigration laws at the federal level, “her husband’s law firm was on the other side of the issue, lobbying Congress for more immigrant-friendly policies.”

The firm made $63,000 lobbying for the American Immigration Lawyers Association in 2005 and 2006, according to Northern Virginia Daily. Alex Vogel was listed as a lobbyist for the pro-amnesty organization. The full story is available at http://www.nvdaily.com/Newstories/310776537891501.bsp.

On Thursday, Schultz called on Vogel to return her share of the pro-amnesty money, or to donate it to the Virginia Police Benevolent Association.

“Every day, our communities pay the price for the federal government’s failure to crack down on illegal immigration,” Schultz said. “The Washington, D.C., amnesty plan is flat out wrong for our communities and our overworked law enforcement. That’s why I’m calling on Jill to make things right by returning the amnesty-lobbying money or donating it to our local police benevolent associations.”

On Sept. 5, Schultz released a plan to crack down on illegal immigration by funding our police, tightening borders, and cracking down on business that knowingly hire illegal aliens.

“Washington has failed to do its job, and we must take action to solve the issue of illegal immigration,” Schultz said. “If the Federal Government commits the correct funding and personnel, I support the training of our sheriffs, police, and correctional staff to deport illegal immigrants following an arrest. I also support state-wide legislation to ensure uniformity. We must also ensure that businesses have the tools to check immigration status so there is no excuse for hiring illegal aliens.”

Schultz is running for Senate in the 27th District, which encompasses the city of Winchester, all of Frederick and Clarke counties, and portions of Fauquier and Loudoun counties.
